Instagram testing Picks feature to match users by shared movies, music, books, and more

Instagram hasn’t announced a release date for Picks and as with many of its experimental tools, there’s no guarantee it will make it to a public rollout. For now, it remains an internal prototype under development.

Instagram is cooking up yet another way to keep you glued to the app, this time by playing matchmaker over your taste in films, music, books, and more. The new tool, called “Picks,” is designed to help you discover what you have in common with friends, potentially sparking more conversation beyond the usual double-taps and emoji replies.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, confirmed to TechCrunch that picks is currently an internal prototype. It’s still in the “playing around with it in the lab” phase and nowhere near your feed, yet.

How frequently should you post on Instagram to maximise reach and resonance?

According to a new Buffer study, the more you can post to Instagram, the better, with users who post more frequently enjoying significant engagement and reach gains.  Buffer analysed over 2 million posts from 100,000 Instagram accounts to uncover important posting trends and their relationship to engagement levels.

Posting more frequently on Instagram can increase reach 3-5 posts per week can result in a 12% increase, while 10 posts can increase it to 24.  However, posting too much low-quality content can be detrimental.  Instead than focussing on quantity, prioritise relevant, valuable content.  Consistency with quality is essential.

 

Instagram’s New Map Feature Is Freaking People Out. But You Can Turn It Off

When Instagram pushed through a relatively little-hyped, seemingly innocuous update on August 6, there’s very little chance its head honcho thought he’d be fighting a defensive battle on Threads against angry users who claimed the platform had deceived them.

Confusion and contention          

When a user tags a location on Threads, more information is shared than just the location’s name.  Additionally, it discloses the precise position, which is frightening people.  Since Instagram released a new update a few days ago that includes the Instagram Map, the internet has gone crazy.

While tagging a location does not share a person’s live location, as in a real-time tracker of where they are as they move about their day, it hasn’t stopped a storm of anger from people who say Instagram hasn’t done enough outreach to tell them exactly how the new feature works.

You can opt in to sharing your last active location with friends you choose, and you can turn it off anytime, its August 6th this feature was announced.  It goes on to explain, “If you have location sharing enabled, the app updates your location each time you launch it or reopen it if it has been running in the background.”  Location sharing can be disabled at any moment.

 

Instagram Video Selfie Verification – Is it really Useful?

Instagram uses video selfie verification to ensure that accounts are run by actual users and not automated accounts or fraudulent profiles. Existing users might be prompted to confirm before accessing the app, and new users must do this when they join up. To ensure authenticity and maintain the platform’s security and dependability, Instagram requires this check if an account exhibits questionable behaviour, such as rapidly accumulating a large number of friends or followers.
